UVa’s Practice Hits The Road

Virginia coach Mike London was impressed with the turnout at S.B. Ballard Stadium on Saturday.

NORFOLK – The Virginia football team’s sixth practice could have gone better Saturday. The offense could have looked sharper. Both the offense and defense were flagged a few times too many. The special teams’ units could have been cleaner, from the kickers on down to the long snappers.

On the other hand, it could have gone a whole lot worse, too. Based on a rough head count, an estimated 3,000 Wahoo fans showed up to S.B. Ballard Stadium at Foreman Field on Saturday to watch the Cavaliers’ sixth open practice and the first away from Charlottesville in recent memory. That included some prominent recruits and “over a 100” high school coaches, Virginia coach Mike London said delightedly, as the Hoos’ attempts to reach out to the talent-rich 7-5-7 area code were apparently a smash hit.
