With a new coaching staff in town with a 4-3 defense being installed, some players are making shifts around the defense and there’s a common theme among many of the moves: the need for speed. That’s why former safeties in the secondary are lining up at outside linebacker this spring, including Ausar Walcott and LaRoy Reynolds. Senior linebacker Jared Detrick says the more speed, the better.

“It’s totally faster. We’ve still go the same guys, but different roles,” Detrick said. “We’ve got some safeties coming down and playing linebacker like with Ausar Walcott along with LaRoy Reynolds. We’re putting different guys in different positions to get more speed. The more speed we can get out there, the better defense we can be.”
