FBS Coaches Interested In T.C. Williams DE

For good reason, Jay Whitmire has drawn the major share of attention in T.C. Williams’ (Alexandria, VA) 2011 football class. Head coach Dennis Randolph has another junior to keep an eye on, though, and the player is Joe Massaquoi , a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end prospect.

“The coaches that have come around have seen Joe,” Randolph said. “He is a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end that can run. Coach Wannstedt from Pitt, Coach London from UVa, Coach Foster from Virginia Tech, Butch Davis from North Carolina…they’ve all seen him. Joe has opened some eyes. He doesn’t have any offers yet, but there is interest.”

Like Whitmire, Massaquoi also plays basketball and lacrosse. He played AAU basketball last year and didn’t focus back on football until last July. As the 2009 season went on, Massaquoi was able to flash some of the talent that now has college coaches intrigued.

“Finally, he started coming to football workouts last July,” Randolph recalled. “Once football started, it took him until game two or three to start coming around. He started really coming off the ball and getting after the quarterback. He had a fairly good early junior year, but he did better as the season went on.”
