Virginia’s Latest Commit Discusses Decision

Darius Redman didn’t tip his hand, but he was leaning to the University of Virginia immediately after an unofficial visit to Charlottesville in late May. Monday night, the H.D. Woodson (Washington, D.C.) standout tight end called primary recruiter Shawn Moore and verbally committed to a Cavaliers program that now has 11 commitments in the 2011 class.

“I committed last night,” Redman said. “I committed because I feel UVa is the right school for me as a tight end. I like the campus and the coaches and I just have the feeling that UVa is right for me. I like the way they plan on using the tight end and plan on bringing the tight end position back to the offense.”

Redman chose Virginia over interest from a number of schools including Illinois, Marshall and North Carolina. Marshall and UNC verbally offered, but the 6-4, 240-pound prospect says an official offer would’ve come from Marshall had he simply taken an unofficial visit there. UNC wanted to see more at camp before extending an official letter.

UVa’s coaches had seen enough, however, to offer officially last month. And this is one reason why Redman is now committed.
