Athletic NJ Tight End Visits Virginia

Point Pleasant Borough (N.J.) tight end Ryan Malleck has seen his stock rise significantly over the course of the past several weeks. It all started when the 6-5, 235-pound rising senior was finally able to get junior highlight film out to college coaches.

“All of this all popped up within the last three weeks,” Malleck said, referring to the success he has enjoyed on the recruiting front. “I didn’t get my highlight tape out until really late. I sent my highlight tape out about a month ago, but college coaches were on the road and a lot of them are just now getting to see it.”

Army, Central Florida, Maryland, Navy, N.C. State and Virginia have officially offered, while Connecticut, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pitt and Temple are among the schools showing serious interest. Virginia stopped by Point Pleasant Borough High School at the end of the Evaluation Period and offered. Malleck responded by taking a visit to UVa this past Sunday.

“I left at two in the morning and got there at nine,” Malleck said, recalling Sunday’s visit for Virginia’s Blue Chip Day. “I looked around the school and came home after the visit. I loved the school, especially academically. That’s the first thing I look at and they have it. I’m going to do a few more visits this month and probably make a decision from there. I love the school. The new tight ends coach has NFL experience. He coached Chris Cooley with the Redskins. I sat down with his family and my family at lunch and got to know him pretty well. I met the offensive coordinator. I felt comfortable around them. Really, Virginia is one of my top choices right now.”
