Catching Up With Top OL Target Jay Whitmire

Athleticism is certainly one Jay Whitmire ‘s strengths out on the football field. It was on display last Saturday at the University of Virginia, where the 6-7, 290-pound rising senior suited up for the T.C. Williams’ (Alexandria, VA) 7-on-7 squad instead of participating in Virginia’s Big Man Camp.

“Playing in 7-on-7 tournaments is fun because I can show off my athleticism,” said Whitmire, who also plays basketball and lacrosse at T.C. Williams. “I guess doing the 7-on-7 at Virginia was kind of fun because I got to do it in front of Coach London and the current coaching staff. I got to show them what I can do as an athlete. I spoke to Coach [Ron] Mattes before the camp and he was happy I was doing the 7-on-7.”

In addition to doing 7-on-7 tournaments, Whitmire has been lifting weights to prepare for next season and being a starting offensive tackle and defensive end for the Titans. He and his teammates are competing in another 7-on-7 tournament today at the University of Pittsburgh. They were at Boston College on Wednesday.

Offseason competitions provide a good starting point for Whitmire and company for the upcoming season.
