Harris, Lee On Board With The Cavs

L.C. Bird (Chesterfield, VA) cornerback/wide receiver prospect Anthony Harris ended his recruitment Friday, choosing the University of Virginia over offers from Connecticut, Louisville, Maryland and West Virginia. The 6-3, 195-pound rising senior, the latest in an impressive run of summer commitments for Mike London, had been leaning to UVa and followed through with a commitment Friday.

“He took a visit to Virginia with his mom and step-dad and sister today to get everybody to take a look,” Skyhawks head coach David Bedwell said of Harris, who is the first Bird product to commit to Virginia since Jason Snelling. “He made a verbal commitment to Virginia today.”

Several factors went into Harris’ decision to go with the in-state program.

“After talking with Anthony, sitting down with him and sharing time with him about this, I know his family being able to drive right up the road to see him play is a factor. His mom is excited about that. I think that is one of the biggest reasons,” Bedwell said. “He felt comfortable with the coaches and where he stands with the scheme. Also, Anthony’s a smart kid. He made a comment to me one day, saying that if he would be living in Richmond after college, a degree from Virginia would carry a lot of weight. He’s thinking ahead.”
