L.C. Bird (Chesterfield, VA) athlete Anthony Harris committed to UVa on Friday while making an unofficial visit. The 6-3, 195-pound rising senior, one of 19 rising high school seniors to commit to the Cavaliers, took some time to discuss his decision and more in a “Q&A.”
Harris didn’t play football his freshman year but came out as a sophomore and had a productive season at cornerback. As a junior last season, Harris totaled 1,800 yards of offense and 27 touchdowns as head coach David Bedwell’s starting signal caller. Again a starter at cornerback, he had eight knockdowns and six interceptions en route to earning first-team all-state honors.
Harris was a major reason why Bird went 10-0 during the regular season, but a cracked leg bone in the final regular season game sidelined the talented prospect for Bird’s first playoff game. The Skyhawks finished 2009 with a 10-1 overall record.
Connecticut, Louisville, Maryland, Richmond, Virginia and West Virginia offered scholarships before UVa won out for Harris’ commitment.
