The arrival of former offensive coordinator Gregg Brandon’s spread offense last season left one important group of Wahoo players very disappointed. Virginia’s tight end corps was underutilized in 2009, changing the very core of the Cavalier offense, which traditionally had made excellent use of the tight end position. The program became a veritable breeding ground for NFL-caliber TEs. In recent seasons, players like Tom Santi , John Phillips , and Jon Stupar all made the transition to the pros, not to mention Heath Miller of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who was named to his first NFL Pro-Bowl last season.

This season, the new coaching staff has brought a pro-style attack back to Charlottesville. Mike London and offensive coordinator Bill Lazor are focusing on utilizing players’ strengths to the team’s advantage and that could mean a hefty role emerges for the tight ends.
