T.C. Williams (Alexandria, VA) star offensive tackle Jay Whitmire attended practice at the University of Virginia last Saturday. The visit wasn’t quite what he initially planned, but the 6-7, 290-pound rising senior did get a closer look at the football program.

“We had a morning practice last Saturday and my dad asked if I wanted to go down to UVa in the afternoon to check out practice. We were going just to kind of check out the scrimmage they were doing. We left around 1 but didn’t get there until 5:30, so we ended up only catching about 30 minutes of it.,” said Whitmire, who was stuck in traffic Saturday afternoon. “After that, I watched film with the team. I guess it was a chance to picture myself there because that’s what I’d be doing if I was there. I got to see a little bit of what a standard day would be like.”

Asked if UVa remains a school he’s considering, Whitmire answered, “Virginia is definitely a school I’m considering.”

Whitmire acknowledged that “some schools stand out,” though he didn’t reveal those schools and he hasn’t narrowed down his list. Besides UVa, the talented rising senior also holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia.
