The University of Virginia is in the top two for Darion Atkins , a 6-8, 210-pound senior power forward out of Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. At this point, this recruiting race appears to be an ACC/Big East battle with the Big East school, Notre Dame, set to host Atkins on an official visit this weekend.

“He has received incredible offers from two fantastic schools with great coaching staffs in Virginia and Notre Dame, which are his top two choices right now,” Landon School Head coach Andy Luther said. “He has several other scholarship offers from ACC, Big East, A-10 and Conference USA schools. The combination of coaches, the basketball family at the schools, the strength of conference and quality of education are why those two schools are on top.”

According to Coach Luther, Atkins made an unofficial visit to UVa about a week-and-a-half ago. The August visit “was sort of the first time Coach Bennett and Darion had together, though Darion did visit earlier in February,” Luther said.

This weekend, Notre Dame will host the standout senior on an official visit. A return trip to Charlottesville could happen soon as well.
