The Latest On Bayside’s Nicholson

In two regular season games, opposing coaches are staying away from Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) star senior cornerback Demetrious “Trey” Nicholson. The talented prospect has had his fingerprints on each of the Marlins first two games, both resulting in wins.

“He’s playing well,” Marlins head coach Darnell Moore said of the 5-9, 161-pound Nicholson, who is the #3 overall prospect in TheSabre.com’s Preseason In-State Top 40. Nicholson picked off eight passes in 2009. “Nobody is throwing at him. Only one pass has been thrown his way in the first two games.”

Nicholson’s defensive prowess is well known. What may be overlooked somewhat is the impact he has on offense and special teams. As a junior, he averaged a whopping 25.7 yards per catch in totaling 850 yards receiving and 11 scores on the season. In two games this year, he has tallied seven receptions and is averaging 18.3 yards per catch.

And, in a 21-9 win against Cox last Friday night, Nicholson showed off his special teams abilities by returning a punt for a touchdown.
