A Spirited Return To The Student Section

If you’ve spent the past day or so wondering why Kris wrote the game story for Eastern Michigan (as I’m sure you have), it’s because I had a weekend off to enjoy being a student. This was my first game in the Mike London era during which I was able to participate as a UVa student and fan. Consider this game recap from a student perspective, and an insider’s look at what it’s like to be a bright-eyed, optimistic Wahoo fan on game day.

The average student’s football Saturday begins well before kickoff, and this week was no exception. Family, friends, and fans gathered early for Mellow Mushroom pizza (yum!), tailgating, and speculation on the team’s performance. Usually I have a pretty skewed view of the team and the program; most of the people I discuss football with are fairly well informed about the Hoos and possess a deep wealth of football knowledge. It’s rare to have to explain a play or lay out the benefits of switching to the 4-3 defense this year (although our past few defensive performances are leaving me empty handed when it comes to said benefits). Nevertheless, it’s nice to explain things to people who want to know, and “see the light come on” for some.
