Having earned three FBS-level scholarship offers, Kwontie Moore already had good reason to feel good in this his junior year. Last month, though, the 6-1, 242-pound running back/linebacker felt even better when he helped Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, VA) capture its first ever state championship.

“[Winning a state title] took a lot of discipline,” Moore said. Norfolk Christian, which started its football program in 2005, captured the VISAA Division III title with a 29-14 win over North Cross on November 20. “We kept going and finished it through.”

Before the 8th grade, Moore moved from Huntsville (AL) to Norfolk (VA) — “My aunt and uncle said there were better opportunities up here,” he said — and he’s happy with the move. He played 8th grade football, playing defensive end and wide receiver, becoming particularly fond of the defensive side of the ball. As the years have progressed, Moore has shown his ability on offense and defense.

“My freshman year, I began to run the ball more. I had over 1,000 yards rushing last year,” said Moore, who also had 400 yards receiving and close to 100 tackles in 2009. “My maturity has developed. My body has developed. My quickness is better. I’m faster. Step by step, I’ve just tried to be coachable and do what the coaches tell me.”
