Virginia Gets Jennings

Darius Jennings is a Hoo. The Gilman (Baltimore, MD) star, rated a 4-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and Scout, announced this morning that he will be signing with the University of Virginia over Ohio State and Wake Forest.

The 6-0, 175-pound Jennings could hardly be stopped as Gilman’s signal caller. Over the course of his career, he rushed for 4,338 yards and scored 53 total touchdowns.

As a senior, he totaled 2,017 yards of offense including 1,592 yards rushing on 165 carries. The Under Armour All-American had 24 touchdowns including 14 rushing, three passing and two kick-off returns. He led the way in 2010 as Gilman picked up big wins over nationally recognized programs such as DeMatha Catholic and Good Counsel.

Jennings, whose lead recruiter from Virginia was Anthony Poindexter, made three visits to Charlottesville over the course of his recruitment, including an official visit in December. He also took officials to Ohio State and Wake Forest before coming to this decision. Following the official to Virginia, Jennings had the following to say regarding Coach London and UVa as a whole.

“He is trying to build a program there. He mentioned the history and everything,” Jennings recalled. “Again, the football piece isn’t too big for me. Football will take care of itself. But Coach London definitely seems like he is turning the program around.”

Jennings is being recruited by the Cavaliers as a wide receiver, though he has the versatility to line up at a variety of different positions on offense and to make an impact in the return game as well.
