Virginia Gains First Commitment In 2012 Class

In an interview Monday morning, Green Run (Virginia Beach, VA) head coach Shawn Wilson said he expected an offer to come any day for junior linebacker/tight end Mark Hall . Well, later in the day, the University of Virginia came through and the versatile, athletic Hall has accepted according to his coach.

Hall, a 6-2, 200-pound prospect, earned first-team all-Beach district honors in 2010 for his play at tight end. He also plays defense and saw action at a variety of spots including free safety, inside linebacker and outside linebacker.

“I expect Mark to have a huge year next year,” Wilson said. “He really stepped it up this year, but I think he can be a whole lot better. The good thing about him is that he could be recruited as an outside linebacker, tight end, or wide receiver. He has to learn more, but he has got a lot of options.”

Hall and his brother Devon were in Charlottesville on Saturday on an unofficial visit. Devon, a 6-3 sophomore point guard at Cape Henry Collegiate, is being eyed by Virginia’s Tony Bennett for basketball. Mark has played basketball throughout his Green Run career but will only play football at UVa.

Of Saturday’s visit, Wilson said, “He liked it a lot.”

Hall is the first player to commit to Virginia’s 2012 class. He’ll be the second Green Run player Virginia has scored in as many classes, as the Cavaliers signed defensive tackle David Dean in 2011. Like Hall, Dean committed to the Hoos around this same time last year.

Stay tuned for much more on Hall’s commitment this week.
