UVa Heads To Florida For Latest Recruit

Florida may not ever be a typical recruiting hotbed for the University of Virginia, but that doesn’t mean the staff will be afraid to pursue opportunities when they arise. As a result, UVa was able to secure a commitment Friday from Demeitre Brim , a 6-3, 200-pound junior linebacker/safety out of Victory Christian Academy in Lakeland, Florida.

UVa’s pursuit began about two weeks ago, when VCA head coach Jeff Schaum had a conversation with Virginia’s Jeff Hanson. The two have known each other for 25 years, dating back to Hanson’s days at Southwest Texas State.

“I told him I had a player I thought they might like,” Schaum said. “They haven’t seen him in person, but Jeff knows I don’t pump up a kid’s height and weight. He said he hadn’t seen film, so I got film to him. Hours after he got the film, he called me back and said they were offering.”

Coach Schaum spoke with Brim about the Virginia offer, recommending his talented prospect to do some further research on the school and the football program.
