Strong pitching, clutch hitting, and good defense have been the consistent harbingers to winning for the Virginia baseball team. Friday’s NCAA Tournament opener at Davenport Field proved no different.

Will Roberts (11-1) went nine shutout innings, scattered four hits and sat down a career high 14 batters via the strikeout as Virginia (50-9) took the opening game of the Charlottesville Regional over Navy 6-0. Designated hitter Danny Hultzen provided the offensive firepower going 3 for 4 with a triple and two singles. He knocked in 3 RBI.
