2013 Profile: Varina OL Khris Wilson

The 2010 season was the first on the varsity level for Khris Wilson. Wilson, now a rising junior, began preseason practice on the defensive line before moving to left offensive tackle, where he would start 11 games for the Varina Blue Devils (VA).

“It’s funny, because I wasn’t supposed to play on the varsity my sophomore year,” recalled the 6’4″, 290-pound Wilson. “The first day of practice, I hit with the junior varsity. I just knew I wasn’t supposed to be there, so I went up and hit with the varsity. Ever since then, I took off. I think I had a pretty good year, but you can always get better.”

Playing on offense last season was a learning experience, but Wilson improved as the season went along. Playing against two of the top 2011 class prospects helped his progression.

“Having to block [former Hermitage linebacker] Curtis Grant was a great experience, and I got him a couple times. [Former Dinwiddie defensive end] Corey Marshall is a great player, too,” said Wilson, whose team faced Dinwiddie in its 2010 season opener and Hermitage in the third game of the regular season (and again in the opening round of the playoffs). “It was fun playing against them. I knew I had to take my game up a notch.”
