Hampton WR Brown Accepts UVa Offer

Hampton’s (VA) Jamall Brown has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia, setting the stage for the 6’2″, 160-pound wide receiver recruit to join forces again with former Crabbers teammate and Virginia freshman quarterback David Watford . Brown’s commitment, first reported by David Teel of the Daily Press, gives the Hoos 14 commits total in the 2012 class.

UVa is “where I’ve always wanted to be,” Brown told Teel in this evening’s Daily Press report. He also received interest from JMU, N.C.State, Richmond and Virginia Tech.

Because of a wrist injury, Brown mostly played safety last season as a junior. He hauled in six receptions for 136 yards in limited time at wideout. As a senior, he may end up replacing Watford as the Crabbers starting signal caller, or he may stay at receiver.

Brown is being recruited by Virginia as a wide receiver, where he impressed at a Cavaliers one-day camp last month. UVa head coach Mike London, who attended Bethel High School in Hampton, decided to offer Brown after the camp performance.

Brown is only the second sure-fire offensive skill position recruit in UVa’s 2012 class. He joins Pennsylvania prep quarterback Matt Johns , who like Brown earned an offer after impressing at a Virginia one-day camp in June. The rest of the class currently includes three offensive linemen, one offensive lineman/defensive tackle (Andre Miles-Redmond ), one defensive tackle/offensive lineman (Tyrell Chavis ), one defensive end, three linebackers, one defensive back, and two “athlete” recruits.

Another wide receiver prospect, 2011 signee Adrian Gamble , could end up being part of the 2012 class. Gamble, a product of Independence High School (Charlotte, N.C.), will attend Fork Union Military Academy according to VirginiaSports.com.
