Wynn Commits To UVa

Virginia continued its recruiting success at Norfolk Christian over the weekend when Courtnye Wynn gave a verbal commitment to the Hoos, joining teammates Kwontie Moore and Wil Wahee in the Cavalier fold for the 2012 recruiting class. NC assistant coach Shannon Messick confirmed Wynn’s decision.

The 6’6″, 245-pound defensive lineman is the 15th high school player to commit to Virginia in this class. Wynn picked the Hoos over offers from Virginia Tech and N.C. State among others. All three Norfolk Christian commits are projected to the defensive side of the ball; Moore is a highly rated linebacker prospect and Wahee is a potential defensive back while Wynn could play either defensive end or defensive tackle.

TheSabre.com recruiting analyst Chris Horne, who is on vacation this week, provided his thoughts on Wynn’s commitment.

Courtnye Wynn is an excellent get for the defensive line,” Horne wrote. “He only has two years of football under his belt, but he shows good quickness, closing speed, and plays a mean brand of defense. He has potential at end or tackle.”

Horne rated Wynn as the 12th best player in the state in his recent pre-summer Sabre In-State Top 40. UVa now has commitments from the following prospects on that list: No. 6 Kwontie Moore (Norfolk Christian/Norfolk), No. 12 Wynn (Norfolk Christian/Norfolk), No. 17 Andre Miles-Redmond (Hermitage/Richmond), No. 19 Tyrell Chavis (Varina/Richmond), No. 23 Mark Hall (Green Run/Virginia Beach), No. 25 Maurice Canady (Varina/Richmond), and No. 37 Wil Wahee (Norfolk Christian/Norfolk).
