Nixon To Join Friends, Teammates At UVa

Norfolk Christian (Norfolk,, VA) wide receiver/safety prospect Mario Nixon verbally committed to the University of Virginia last night. The 6’5″, 210-pound rising senior, once committed to Virginia Tech, will join three other NCHS rising seniors – Kwontie Moore , Wilfred Wahee, and Courtnye Wynn – in Charlottesville next year.

On May 15, Nixon originally committed to Virginia Tech over Virginia, and he also had offers from the Air Force Academy, Navy, N.C. State and Vanderbilt. This past Sunday, though, he attended a preseason practice at UVa, and on Monday night rumors circulated the internet regarding a possible switch. Tuesday night, TheSabre.com confirmed that Nixon had cast his lot with Mike London and company. He is the 22nd rising senior prospect to commit to the Cavaliers.

Nixon earned VIS Division III first-team all-state honors at wide receiver his junior year, tallying 31 receptions for 600 yards that season. He also started at free safety, racking up 38 tackles, six pass break-ups and four interceptions for an Ambassadors squad that captured the VIS, Division 3 state title. He only has one-and-a-half seasons of high school football experience, so there certainly is nice upside potential here.

Stay tuned for more on Nixon’s decision on the EDGE.
