UVa’s Tim Smith is trying to come back from ankle surgery.

As Virginia opened fall training camp this month, receiver Tim Smith made an immediate impression. In fact, he went 5 for 5. Yes, when it came to post-practice interviews following open practice sessions, Smith had a perfect record for requests. If he draws as much attention during the 2011 season, that could be very good news for the Cavaliers.

After all, Smith’s only headlines in 2010 weren’t pleasant for the Chesapeake native. ‘Out for the season’ headlines rarely are. Smith appeared in just two games last fall before an injury to his left ankle forced him out of action and into the operating room. He returned for limited no-contact work during spring practice, but received clearance for full contact over the summer.
