Hoo Preview 2011: Reynolds Ready To Go

LaRoy Reynolds led the team in tackles last season.

In 2010, Virginia sophomore linebacker LaRoy Reynolds improved upon a 2009 season that included just 6 tackles and 98 plays. In the coach Mike London’s first season, however, Reynolds had no trouble distinguishing himself last fall. Reynolds led the team in tackles, participated in nearly 600 plays, and was second on the team behind only Cam Johnson in tackles for a loss. Reynolds’ success last season coupled with the plethora of returning defensive players may bode well for the 2011 defense.

If Reynolds’ position change from safety to linebacker last offseason had anything to do with his success, a similar, if less dramatic switch has taken place this offseason. Reynolds has moved from the SAM (strong side) to WILL (weak side) linebacker position. The move this time around could take advantage of Reynolds’ ability to play in pursuit or in pass coverage.
