UVa Lands Point Guard For The 2012 Class

Today’s trek from Waynesboro to Charlottesville was well worth it for Teven Jones . Jones, a 6’0″, 180-pound point guard prospect, received an offer from Cavaliers head coach Tony Bennett today. He accepted, becoming the fourth member of UVa’s 2012 recruiting class.

“I went over to watch the team workout, and that’s when Coach Bennett offered me,” recalled Jones, who has begun a postgraduate year at Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, Virginia. He has been on UVa’s radar since performing in an AAU showcase earlier this summer. “When we were walking back to his office, that’s what I told him I wanted to go there. His eyes lit up.”

The decision was an easy one for Jones, and not just because Virginia was the first school to offer, though that helped. The Kannapolis, North Carolina, native is highly impressed with Coach Bennett and his staff. Ritchie McKay served as the lead recruiter.

“What really interested me about Virginia is I like how the coaches are and how they talk to the players,” said Jones, who joins Justin Anderson (SF), Evan Nolte (F) and Mike Tobey (C) in the Hoos’ 2012 class. “They are laid back, but when it’s time to handle business they handle business. I like how they keep the players in good shape. And not just weight room stuff. The do things for getting in better basketball shape.
