UNC Watch List

Both the Virginia men’s and women’s soccer teams opened ACC play with wins this fall. The UVa football team would like to follow that path too as the Cavaliers travel to North Carolina on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams. One of the oldest rivalries in the nation, the series has been evenly split over the first 115 meetings with the Heels owning just three more victories than the Hoos.

Virginia has won two straight games in Chapel Hill, but UNC snapped a four-game skid to the Cavs and a Charlottesville winless drought dating back to 1981 in last season’s victory at Scott Stadium. That 44-10 score was unusual for a series that’s typically a close contest; the 34-point margin was the biggest since UVa’s 35-point victory (41-6) in 1968.

Turnovers played a big role in the Tar Heels’ win last season when Virginia had 5 turnovers and UNC had none. That’s a key to this week’s game too in TheSabre.com’s Game Preview. As always, there are some key areas to watch in the contest and the UNC Watch List takes a closer look.
