Game Nuggets

• NC State leads the all-time series with Virginia 33-21-1, but the teams have split the last 14 meetings 7-7. The Wolfpack haven’t won two in a row against UVa since 1993-94; they won the last meeting in 2007, 29-24. Nine of the last 13 games have been decided by 10 points or less.
• Since 1983, however, Virginia is 15-8 against NC State.
• Virginia coach Mike London worked as an assistant coach for Tom O’Brien when he held the head coaching job at Boston College. London, one of seven former O’Brien assistants to become a head coach, served on the BC staff as the defensive line coach from 1997-2000. London left his BC job for his first stint at the University of Virginia when he coached the D-Line from 2001-2004 (he also was the UVa recruiting coordinator from 2002-2004).
• NC State coach Tom O’Brien worked as an assistant coach at Virginia from 1982-96. He is 2-0 against UVa as a head coach (1-0 at both NCSU and Boston College).
• NC State’s starting left guard is R.J. Mattes , the son of former UVa All-ACC Ron Mattes. Ron Mattes worked as the offensive line coach at Virginia last season before leaving his graduate assistant role for an assistant coaching job at Elon.
