Game Nuggets

  • The two teams have only met 8 previous times and Miami leads the series 5-3.
  • Virginia is 2-1 in October and owns a 14-7 record this month since 2007. Miami is 3-1 this month and owns an all-time record of 196-97-8 in October.
  • The first ever meeting between the two programs came at the 1996 Carquest bowl. That night featured 21 Cavaliers and 22 Hurricanes that went on to play in the NFL. Of note, 20 of the 44 starters were drafted by the NFL, including nine first-round picks. Speaking of the NFL, at least one former Hurricane has scored a touchdown in every NFL week since Week 15 of the 2002 season (146 straight weeks).
  • Miami head coach Al Golden was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at UVa from 2001-2005. He and Cavalier head coach Mike London were on the Virginia staff together from 2001-2004. Miami defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio also worked as a UVa assistant from 2004-2005.
  • This is one of only 20 college football games this season being broadcast in 3D by ESPN.

Max Milien and the Hoos hope to bounce back from the loss to NCSU.
