Greg’s Game Report 2011: Miami

Virginia’s offense dialed up the big play against the Hurricanes striking for touchdown passes of 78, 37 and 53 yards and the Cavalier defense put a Halloween hex on the Miami running game as Virginia claimed its first ACC road win in eight games. The Hoos are now one win away from bowl eligibility and even more interesting – they are not out of the Coastal Division race.

The Cavalier running game continues to impress. Virginia surpassed the century mark rushing for the eighth consecutive time this season. The Hoos have not rushed for a 100 yards in eight consecutive games since the 2004-2005 seasons. If the law firm of Jones, Parks and Richardson can continue the pace through the remainder of the season, it will be the first time a Cavalier club has rushed for 100+ yards in every game of a campaign since the 1997 season 14 years ago.

UVa’s defense had its fourth consecutive above average game grading out at 83%. The line harassed Jacory Harris all evening and the front seven shut down Miami’s running attack. The Hoos kept UM off down-and-distance schedule all night as 71% of Miami’s second down plays needed 7+ yards for a first down (15 of 21) and 55% of the Canes’ third down attempts were third-and-long situations.
