In The Sunday Sampler article after the Indiana game, I took a closer look at a pair of late-half drives that led to Virginia touchdowns in that 34-31 win. With another last-gasp drive playing a key role in the exciting 14-13 win against Florida State, it makes sense this week to take a closer look at the Cavaliers’ game-winning touchdown march in Tallahassee.

First, there are a couple of quick points to provide context. In the Indiana game discussed in that Sampler, one thing was clear about the two late-half drives: the Cavaliers used similar plays that were successful earlier in the game, but often out of different formations to make things more comfortable for Michael Rocco and the offense. Two, Virginia offensive coordinator Bill Lazor often likes to create matchup problems with formations and receivers’ route combinations. That’s something UVa fans have seen in multiple situations this season.
