UVa, Cal Early Offers For GC’s Marshall

Quarterback Brendan Marshall played on Good Counsel’s (Olney, MD) freshman football team in 2009. He saw spot duty as a backup on the varsity in 2010 before assuming a starting role in 2011. In his first full season as a starter on the varsity level, the 6’5″, 210-pound signal caller helped the Falcons to an undefeated record (12-0) and a WCAC championship.

“I was prepared [to be the Good Counsel varsity starting quarterback],” Marshall said. “I had been practicing all offseason. It started with workouts and then with throwing to receivers. It was real different, but I was ready.”

The Good Counsel senior class, a talented group headlined by wide receiver Stefon Diggs , helped Marshall’s transition to a full time role. Marshall felt he adapted well to the speed of the game, and he is also pleased with how he developed in terms of pocket awareness.

“The season started out a little foggy, but as the year went on I got a better feeling for when to get the ball out, when to throw to my check-down, when to throw it away, and things like that,” said Marshall, who describes himself as a pocket passer.
