Cavs Gain 4-Star Commitment

The Virginia football program scored some big news following today’s Spring Game. After watching the Orange defeat the Blue 20-17 at Scott Stadium this afternoon, Varina (VA) junior defensive back Tim Harris made a verbal commitment to the Cavaliers. The 6’2″, 180-pound prospect, rated a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com, chose the ‘Hoos over offers from California, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Blue Devils head coach Stu Brown informed TheSabre.com of Harris’ decision in a text message. Later on, he discussed what may have given UVa the edge over those other schools.

“Other coaches recruited him, but nobody had gained the one-on-one relationship with Tim like Jim Reid,” Brown said. “I think they’ve become good friends. They’ve had a lot of conversations and Coach Reid has shown a lot of interest. I think Tim wanted to honor that interest.”

Harris was close to committing to the ‘Hoos last summer, during Virginia’s annual 7-on-7 tournament. Not 100-percent sure, he held off. By committing today, Brown believes Harris to be 100-percent solid in his decision.
