Nicholson Inherits Leadership Role

Demetrious Nicholson is the only returning starter in the secondary.

Cornerback is arguably one of the toughest positions in football to play. Learning the position at the college level is even tougher. Having to step in and start as a freshman is almost unheard of.

After Ras-I Dowling finished up his eligibility, true freshman Demetrious “Tra” Nicholson came into training camp in 2011 to compete for a starting cornerback spot at Virginia. Nicholson was one of the crown jewels of coach Mike London’s first recruiting class. The 5’11” two-way athlete was named the Gatorade Player of the year in the state of Virginia after helping lead Bayside High School to a berth in the state semifinals. After arriving on Grounds in the summer of 2011, Nicholson quickly discovered the differences between the high school and college games.
