Catching Up With Tom Hagan

Tom Hagan

Current home: Brooklyn Heights, NY
Current job: Sports Agent with CAA Sports
Family: Getting married this month
Nicknames: “Tommy” was probably my go-to. On the athletic field it was always Tommy but in my professional life it’s Tom. As far as any outside the box, “Hago” I guess which is not really exciting.
Best Virginia memory: “Walking The Lawn for graduation. Being able to graduate with a degree in engineering on top of playing a few sports was very special for me. Walking through the sea of people with friends and family nearby was something I’ll never forget.”
Least favorite Virginia memory: During his senior season, Hagan took a 99 MPH fastball from North Carolina hurler Andrew Miller off the forearm and “couldn’t squeeze the bat for a week.” In a bit of poetic justice, Miller and the Tar Heels lost the game – Miller’s first loss of the season.
Favorite Charlottesville restaurant/hangout as a student: “I’d say the Downtown Mall. I was always driven to that scene in college because it was a little different than the Corner.”
Last time back on Grounds: “Two weeks ago! Former UVa catcher Matt Bernstein got married on The Lawn. I’m fortunate to get back to Charlottesville a bunch every year.”
Teammates/coaches you stay in touch with most: Can’t name them all as a lot of us are still extremely close – Ryan Zimmerman, Mike Ballard, Matt Street, Tim Henry, Josh Darby, Jeff Kamrath, Mike Mitchell, Brandon Marsh, and Chris Gale to name a few.

Tom Hagan has no regrets.

He doesn’t regret leaving football to concentrate exclusively on baseball. He doesn’t regret giving up playing professional baseball and he doesn’t regret the fact that his career path is about as far away from his major as could possibly be.
