Looking at the Virginia roster, there seem to be plenty of shifty speedsters in the receiving corps. Tim Smith , Darius Jennings , and Dominique Terrell all fall into that category. When it comes to a possession-style receiver with a big body, though, the list thins out considerably. That’s where sophomore Miles Gooch could make a mark in 2012.
The 6’3″, 220-pound Georgia native has the frame to fend off smaller defensive backs and safeties in between the hashes. It’s the role filled so well by the likes of Fontel Mines and Matt Snyder in recent seasons. Often these types of receivers run the underneath hooks, curls, and sit-down routes that aren’t glamorous like the deep bomb, but help keep the chains moving for the offense.
