Catching Up With Anthony Gill

UVa secured a talented class of recruits in the 2012 class, but Justin Anderson , Taylor Barnette, Evan Nolte , and Mike Tobey weren’t the only key acquisitions for the Cavaliers this past offseason. There was also 6’8″, 230-pound power forward Anthony Gill, who at this time last year was preparing for his freshman season at the University of South Carolina.

Gill showed promise last season, when he averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Gamecocks. But when head coach Darrin Horn was dismissed last March, the Charlotte (N.C.) native decided to transfer. He took official visits to Ohio State and Virginia before going with the Hoos.

“Anthony, he really fits. I’m so glad he transferred. He’s a good one,” Bennett said. “It will be great for him this year to develop … and to have that year to really hone his skills and work on the things he needs to and have the time with Coach Curtis, who is excellent, but he’s going to be a good one. I’m glad he’s here and I think you’ll enjoy watching him for three years after this.”

Per NCAA rules, Gill will have to sit out this season but will be eligible to play next year and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
