Ask The Experts #14: Tyrone Lewis

Tyrone Lewis played in two different schemes for two different coordinators at Virginia, manning a defensive back position in both a 5-2 and 4-3 defense. The scheme didn’t matter much, though. Lewis and his fellow teammates in the secondary were a fierce group of competitors that proved to be a force to be reckoned with while wearing the orange and blue.

Lewis, after all, lined up for the Cavaliers during one of the program’s most successful runs, playing defensive back, for example, on the 1989 ACC Championship team, the 1990 team that rose to No. 1 in the nation, and as a captain on the 8-3-1 1991 team. Joining Lewis in the backfield in those days were current UVa radio color analyst Tony Covington and the program’s all-time interceptions leader Keith McMeans as well as Jason Wallace and Greg Jeffries.
