Signing Day Primer

National Signing Day: TheSabre’s Coverage

For a list of those Class of 2013 recruits expected to sign with the University of Virginia, follow this link to view our 2013 Signees Page. We will be updating the page continuously as letters of intent are officially announced, changing the status of recruits from “Committed” to “Signed.” UVa already has one recruit in the fold in linebacker LaChaston Smith, who enrolled last month.

While the Virginia coaches await letters of intent from 19 recruits, they also will await a decision from Alpharetta (GA) offensive lineman George Adeosun . The 6’6″, 290-pound prospect made official visits to Virginia, Oklahoma, and Arizona State the past three weekends. The University of Georgia, which offered last Friday, is also in contention.

Alpharetta High’s Signing Day Celebration takes place at 3:45 pm, but Adeosun’s decision could be revealed before then. I believe the decision will come down to Georgia and Virginia. Per Twitter, it appears the super sleeper prospect may have made his decision.

“THE ADEOSUN FAMILY HAS REACHED A CONSENSUS,” Adeosun tweeted Tuesday night.

TheSabre.com will update you once Adeosun’s decision is revealed. And once all the LOIs are in, we’ll have complete analysis on UVa’s 2013 recruiting haul.

Mizzell Ready To Make It Official

Taquan Mizzell

On the eve of National Signing Day, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) senior running back Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell is anxious to make official the verbal commitment he gave the University of Virginia football program last August.

“I’m very excited about it,” said Mizzell, who will fax his signed letter of intent into UVa tomorrow morning. Bayside will hold a Signing Day ceremony tomorrow afternoon at 2. “It’s a blessing, just to have a full ride and not having to put all that stress on my mom.”

Mizzell traveled to Charlottesville this past weekend to visit with the Cavalier coaches, including new offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild and running backs coach Larry Lewis.

“I got a chance to meet with almost all of the new coaching staff. I was very impressed with them, and they were impressed with me. They didn’t say too much [about the specifics of the offense], but I do know they want to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers,” said Mizzell.

Of course Mizzell cares about the role he will play in Coach Fairchild’s offense, but the relationship he has developed with head coach Mike London is a major reason why he will don the orange and blue.

“Coach London is like family now,” Mizzell said. “Virginia was the first school to offer me, and me and Coach London have had a great relationship from day one. I can’t wait to get there.”

UVa’s most highly regarded recruit, the 5’10”, 190-pound Mizzell is rated a 5-star prospect by Rivals.com and a 4-star prospect by ESPN, Scout, and 247Sports. He looks forward to showing off his talents in front of the Wahoo nation, starting next season.

“I just want to thank [the Virginia fans] for all the love and support,” Mizzell said.
