The Virginia men’s basketball team capped its regular season schedule with a come-from-behind victory against Maryland. The Cavaliers trailed by 17 points before rallying to win 61-58 in overtime. UVa shot just 36.8% for the game, but winning ugly is better than not winning at all … especially if you have NCAA Tournament hopes. The “Double Bonus” dives into the finale as the Hoos prep for the ACC Tournament.

Winning Ugly

Let’s just get this part out of the way. Sunday’s victory cannot be called aesthetically pleasing, at least not on offense. In addition to the overall shooting percentage listed above, the Wahoos went 4 of 16 from 3-point range and 15 of 23 at the free throw line. They spent much of the first half out of sorts and they couldn’t consistently hit shots at any point in the game. Fortunately, Virginia got its defensive act on track, slowly dug out of a 17-point first-half hole, and grabbed a gritty win that left the team undefeated in ACC play at home.
