Chancellor Sophomore A Major College Target

Chancellor (Fredericksburg, VA) offensive lineman/defensive lineman Matthew Burrell has scored offers from Clemson, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Only a sophomore, the 6’5″, 265-pound prospect seems to be taking the major college attention in stride.

“I just want to compete right now with the best,” Burrell said. “It’s not overwhelming at all. It’s driving me to work harder.”

The 2012 season was Burrell’s first as a full-time starter on the varsity level. Primarily a member of the Chargers’ junior varsity squad as a freshman, Burrell, who says he is “very competitive,” couldn’t wait for his chance to shine on a higher level.
“It just made me hungry,” Burrell said of not being a full-time player on the varsity his freshman year. “I was starving to get out on the field. I was ready for any obstacle, from size to speed.”

Playing on the varsity was an adjustment, but Burrell felt good about his overall performance. Obviously, college coaches liked what they saw as well.
