Jon Tenuta’s aggressive defense has a lot of guys like Brent Urban smiling this spring.

When the Virginia football team released its post-spring depth chart, the offensive side of the ball drew the most attention and overshadowed the defense in some ways. A quarterback competition and unforeseen shuffling on the offensive line will do that. Looking at the defense after the spring, however, held no surprises. The Cavaliers need to replace production in some key spots, but they have a lot of talented contributors returning.

The key part for the defense, now under the direction of new defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta, comes at what I will call the ‘T’ of the defense. The ‘T’ is the defensive tackles in the middle and the linebackers across the field. The Hoos lost a lot of production, a lot of leadership, and a lot of experience from those spots and the spring began the process of rebuilding those positions for the coming year.
