Jamez Brickhouse didn’t need long to adjust to the varsity football level, despite the fact that his team plays in the Beach District, which is one of the state’s toughest districts. As a freshman he started the first game of the 2011 season on Bayside’s (Virginia Beach, VA) varsity squad, a team that compiled a 9-3 overall record.

“Jamez is fast and strong,” said Jon White, who is the Bayside varsity football’s head coach after being an assistant to Darnell Moore the past several years. “The kid can play. He’s a good guy, man. A good guy. Academically, he’s sound. Once again, another good kid. He started to hit a little bit last year, too.”

Brickhouse, who now stands 5’9″ and weighs 160 pounds, reflected on his freshman season performance.

“I started at corner. It was a great feeling,” Brickhouse said. “I knew if I keep God first I’d start. When I started out, the first game was kind of rough. From there, it started being pretty good. I think I gave up a big play or a touchdown or something in the first game. After that, I came on the sideline and my coaches said it was okay. They said it happens, so just go out there and play. From then on, I played good.”
