Under coach Bronco Mendenhall, BYU’s defense has been stout year in and year out. Last season, the Cougars ranked No. 3 in the nation in total defense by allowing just 266.1 yards per game. That’s part of a six-year trend that started in 2007 where BYU has ranked outside the top 30 in total defense just once (59th in 2008).
