It was a surprise to Virginia fans and the media corps, but quarterback David Watford said he saw it coming. He was just certain that true freshman walk-on Daniel Hamm would have a big day at running back against VMI. Hamm didn’t disappoint in his debut for the Hoos.
“I called it. During the week, I told Coach Fairchild. I said he’s going to have 150 yards rushing,” Watford said. “I knew he was going to have a hell of a performance because he practices just like that. In practice, he does the same thing and runs just as hard. Hamm is a great player. I have the upmost respect for that kid.”
