Mason, Dastrup Set For UVa Officials

Montrose Christian (Rockville, MD) senior combo guard Nate Mason is still expected on Grounds today to begin his official visit. He won’t be alone. Payton Dastrup , a 6’9″ center out of Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona, will make his official visit to UVa this weekend as well.

Virginia will be the second official visit for both players. Mason previously visited Kansas State while Dastrup took an official trip to BYU. As reported on TheSabre on Thursday, the 5’11”, 165-pound Mason is down to four schools — Kansas State, Memphis, Minnesota, and Virginia — and could be closing in on a decision.

Dastrup isn’t expected to decide soon but wants to commit this fall. In addition to BYU and Virginia, the 4-star big man is also considering Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Ohio State (where he reportedly will take an official visit in two weeks) and UCLA.

Dastrup is a member of the class of 2014 but plans to take a 2-year LDS mission straight out of high school, meaning he wouldn’t begin his college career until the summer/fall of 2016. This will be the talented prospect’s first thorough tour of UVa and Charlottesville, although he was on Grounds this June for the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

Stay tuned to TheSabre for more from both of these players in the coming days.
