Dowling Talks UVa Offer

6’1″, 200-pound senior Donovan Dowling has been one of Varina’s (VA) most important players this season, starting at wide receiver and cornerback, returning punts, and serving as the team’s place-kicker and punter. Dowling has produced, evidenced by the fact that he was just named first-team all-Capital district at receiver, defensive back, utility, and punter.

By the end of October, Dowling had earned scholarship offers from Delaware, Hampton, JMU, Marshall, Richmond, and William & Mary. On Tuesday of this week, the University of Virginia became the first BCS-level program to come through with a full scholarship.

“I was surprised when I was told. I think I was on their board for a long time, but I’m not sure. I hadn’t really talked to them that much,” Dowling said of UVa. “This is a big option available to me. UVa is great academically. I’m highly interested, but it’s something I still need to consider with my mom and my family. I need to find out more about the school and everything.”

Dowling, the 2013 Capital District Offensive Player of the Year, is being recruited by the Cavaliers as an athlete.
