The “Week In Review” is back with the latest update on how those University of Virginia-bound high school seniors are performing on the gridiron this season. Last week, RB Jordan Ellis set a school record while S Quin Blanding came up big in a crucial game for his team. Before getting to the action on the field, here is a rundown of some of the postseason all-star events some of these future Hoos are scheduled to play in…

Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown Under Armour All-American Bowl, January 2
Jeffery Farrar and Steven Moss Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, January 5
Will Richardson NC/SC Shrine Bowl

The Week In Review, 9th Edition

Quin Blanding ‘s 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter put Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) up 20-14, and the Marlins hung on for a win they had to have over Cox last week. Bayside is 5-4 and currently has a spot in the 6A South playoffs with one regular season game remaining. The Marlins close out the regular season tonight at home against a 4-5 First Colonial squad.

– Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) handled Great Bridge last week, 35-0. For DL Andrew Brown and the Tiger defense, the shutout was their third of the 2013 season. The Tigers improved to 9-0 and host Hickory in the regular season finale this evening.

– Clearwater Central Catholic (Clearwater, FL) fell to IMG Academy last week, 19-13. The Marauders (7-2) look to rebound in the regular season finale against Anclote tonight. UVa linebacker recruit Caanan Brown and company are already in the FSHAA Class 3A playoffs, which begin next Friday night.

Following last week’s game, Brown headed to Charlottesville for an unofficial visit to his future school.

– Episcopal Academy (Newtown Square, PA), which features tight end Evan Butts , lost to Malvern Prep, 49-21, in an Inter-Ac matchup. The Churchmen (8-2) host Haverford School tomorrow in their regular season finale.

– UVa-bound running back Jordan Ellis had 15 carries for 133 yards and five touchdowns as Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, GA) blew away Meadowcreek, 47-0. Ellis’ five scores was a single game school record for touchdowns in a single game. The Lions (8-2) travel to North Gwinnett tonight for their regular season finale.

In this article on GwinnettPrepSports.com, Lions head coach Mark Fleetwood says the following about Ellis: “Jordan has been a special guy, it has been great watching him… he is a top-notch guy on the field and a top-notch guy off the field.:

– Upland (CA) defeated Etiwanda last week, 26-19. The Scots boast a 6-3 record heading into tonight’s game against undefeated Rancho Cucamonga, which will be for the Baseline League title.

Upland features Virginia-bound cornerback/wide receiver recruit Jeffery Farrar .

– Woodgrove (Purcellville, VA) edged out Broad Run, 24-23, to improve to 6-3 on the year. DE/OLB Jordan Jackson , who was featured in an EDGE update earlier this week, and his teammates are in great shape to make the 4A North playoffs.

“Our offense controlled the ball,” Jackson said, reflecting on last week’s win. “We had the ball 38 out of 48 minutes. They ended up missing an extra point off a bad snap. At that point, they were up two. We marched down the field on a 94-yard drive and got a field goal to go up [24-23].”

Woodgrove obviously held on for the win, though Jackson says a last second hook-and-ladder play from Broad Run got a little too exciting before the Wolverines eventually recovered a fumble. Tonight should be exciting as well, as the Wolverines take on an 8-1 Loudoun Valley squad.

– Central Gwinnett (Lawrenceville, GA), which is led by cornerback Darious Latimore , lost to Dacula last week by a score of 24-6. The Black Knights (2-7) meet Shiloh tonight.

– OL Steven Moss ‘ final home game at Chancellor (Fredericksburg, VA) did not go well, as Courtland defeated the Chargers by a score of 34-0. Chancellor (1-8) travels to King George this evening in what will be the final game of Moss’ standout high school career.

– Cummings (Burlington, N.C.) had its 2-game win streak snapped last week in a 35-7 loss to Reidsville. The Cavaliers, which feature OL recruit Will Richardson , fall to 3-7. An away contest against Jordan-Matthews takes place tonight.
