Brown, Brown In Postseason Action Saturday

The season is over for all of Virginia’s class of 2014 commitments except for two. Andrew Brown, who was just named 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Virginia, and Caanan Brown each take to the field Saturday in playoff action.

Caanan Brown, a 6’3″, 225-pound linebacker prospect, looks to lead Clearwater Central Catholic (Clearwater, FL) to a Class 3A state championship. Andrew Brown, a 6’4″, 295-pound defensive lineman, will try and help unbeaten Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) make the Division 6 state championship, which takes place on Saturday, December 14, at UVa’s Scott Stadium. The Tigers can achieve this goal if they defeat a tough Colonial Forge team that upset a highly talented Ocean Lakes squad last week.

Last week, Clearwater Central Catholic defeated Miami Westminster in a Class 3A state semifinal, 7-0. Meanwhile, Oscar Smith cruised to a 40-7 win over Forest Park. Brown and the rest of the Tigers defense did what they have done all season long… dominate. Oscar Smith had six sacks and forced three turnovers in the win. On the year, Brown and company have yielded double-digit points only twice.

Two more Virginia recruits – Upland (CA) cornerback/receiver Jeffery Farrar and Woodgrove (Purcellville, VA) defensive end/outside linebacker Jordan Jackson – were in playoff action as well last week. Their teams, however, came up short. Woodgrove lost to Salem, 42-25, in the 4A North Region semifinals, while Upland could not stop Corona Centennial in an 86-56 loss in an Inland Division semifinal.

Jackson, who says he is close to 6’5″, 225 pounds, had double digit sacks for the second consecutive year. That number is more impressive when you consider he didn’t play high school football until his junior year. Farrar finished the year with five interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

– Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown – Under Armour All-American Bowl, January 2
