Kamara Picks Hoos

Consensus 4-star wide receiver Jamil Kamara will don the orange and blue of the University of Virginia next season. The Bishop Sullivan (Virginia Beach, VA) senior announced his decision today at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, verbally committing to UVa over Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.

“First of all I’d like to thank my family, all the schools that gave me a chance, and of course the Army Bowl,” Kamara said during his announcement. “I will be attending the University of Virginia.”

At 6’2”, 205 pounds, Kamara possesses a good frame and terrific hands. He is coming off an outstanding senior season in which he caught 69 passes for 1,399 yards and 23 touchdowns, helping the Crusaders to an undefeated season and a VISAA Division II state championship.

Kamara becomes the second sure-fire wide receiver recruit in Virginia’s class of 2014, joining Varina (VA) standout Donovan Dowling. The Cavaliers now boast 16 recruits in the class of 2014, but two – 5-star defensive lineman Andrew Brown and offensive lineman Jake Fieler – are enrolling this month.

“Staying at home, close to my family, and it felt like the right school for me. And the right offense and early playing time as a freshman,” Kamara said when asked why he chose Virginia.

Stay tuned to TheSabre for more from Kamara, who in previous interviews also cited fellow class of 2014 recruit Corwin Cutler, a quarterback, as a big reason why he liked Virginia. He is also good friends with a number of current Cavaliers and incoming recruits, such as Cutler, Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown.

EDGE Outlook

Kamara wants the opportunity to play as a true freshman. Whether or not he can do it remains to be seen, but certainly he has a chance to earn a spot in the Virginia receiver rotation next season. Aside from Darius Jennings and Keeon Johnson, the rest of Virginia’s returning wide receiver corps has yet to truly step up and grab a significant role in the offense.
