Versatile Ezeagwu Set To Visit UVa

Colonial Forge (Stafford, VA) entered its 2013 6A state quarterfinal matchup with Virginia Beach powerhouse Ocean Lakes as the underdog. It left as the winner, thanks in large part to the play of senior wide receiver/cornerback Daniel Ezeagwu (pronounced Ez-I-gOO), who scored three touchdowns (2 rush, one kickoff return) in his team’s 23-20 victory.

Ezeagwu’s clutch performance not only landed his team in the state semifinals, but it drew the attention of major college coaches as well. The 6’2”, 200-pound prospect is now considering offers from Maryland, Old Dominion, and Virginia along with previous offers from JMU and Towson.

“First of all, he is a big, physical, fast athlete. We played him at cornerback and at slot receiver. He was our go-to-guy. He got banged up with our schedule early in the season. Midway through, we got him back at a hundred percent,” Colonial Forge head coach Bill Brown said of Ezeagwu, who totaled 1,133 yards of offense (743 receiving, 390 rushing) and 16 touchdowns in 2013. On defense he had 62 tackles with four forced fumbles and an interception.

Ezeagwu is scheduled to take an official visit to the University of Virginia on the weekend of January 17-19. He may take an official to Maryland the following weekend, but Brown is not sure if that is definitive. JMU and ODU are trying to lock down official visit dates as well.
